My name is Alyssa Holland. I come from a smallish town in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. There I grew up with a mom, dad, older brother, and a chocolate lab. From there, I moved to Nashville for two years and then transferred to USC here in California.

Where I am going is very unpredictable given my major choice. I love the flexibility and uncertainty that the music industry presents. It allows me to have choices, choices to move to a different city or pursue a variety of different interests. However, where I plan on going is into artist management.

Artist management is something that you learn and perfect by doing it. Therefore, I found a band that I truly believe in and have been managing ever since. I view this experience as a long-term investment leading to that success.

I like to think that I received great qualities from both of my parents. I think my dad gave me my outgoing personality and love for music. However, my mom gave me my creative abilities as well as my ability to read people and be caring for others.

I am unlike my parents in the fact that I like change and flexibility, whereas they both prefer more certainty and structure.

I have operated under my own expectations for as long as I can remember. I am fortunate in the fact that my parents have always had faith and trust in my ability to take care of myself and make good choices. I have also always considered myself to be pretty independent.

My mom’s best friend Pam serves as a model for me as she is caring, resourceful, and a great friend, all while being a single mom.

Something that really pisses me off is when people wrong the people that I care about. I am very protective of the people I love.

I guess I would say I feel a special connection to bunnies. I have always loved them, but I feel like I only see them when I’m having a bad day and I need something that will cheer me up.

I don’t have any memory of childhood encounters with trees or plants, but I do remember vividly jumping into leaf piles with my brother and dog growing up. I grew up in a forested neighborhood. Fall has always been my favorite season. Whenever fall would come around, my backyard would be flooded with leaves falling from the trees.

  1. Hi Alyssa, firstly it's interesting you've lived in different places before USC, I've always wondered what that's like. Second, I'd definitely agree that there are so many different routes one can take when it comes to the music industry and artist management is certainly a strong one. Your ability to be flexible and implement your creativity into the role will be a big help for sure. Good luck to you and your band's growth.

  2. Hi Alyssa, I think its great that you operate under your own expectations since the industry you are going into is rigorous yet will require you to stay true to yourself. I think it's really cool that you manage a band, what band is it I would love to check out their music? Also I also find bunnies soothing, maybe its because they look so calm all the time...

  3. Hi Alyssa, awesome to hear that you're already pursuing your dream of becoming an artist manager with what I assume is a small new band. It's always good to start early; that's definitely something I'm doing with film and animation. I would say my parents are the very opposite of yours, no trust in me, which is sad to me cause it's unjustified, but I'm glad to hear that your parents show so much trust in you, must be nice.

  5. Hi Alyssa, it’s so cool that you’ve been managing a band you believed in even before graduating. As a film writer/director who’s been looking for managers, I know how delicate the relationship between an artist and their manager can be, so I really admire what you do!

  6. Hey Alyssa,
So cool that you're working hands on with a band. I'm a music industry minor and was working for a small management company last year, so I understand how much frustrating the space is and how much work goes into band management. I admire you're work and dedication!
