Blog Post 4 - Book 1 Post 1 - American Like Me
The book I decided to read is American Like Me by America Ferrera. I chose to read this book because I was really intrigued by the book's layout. I thought that I personally would enjoy that there are several stories being told in this book by different people and perspectives. I'm excited to learn about America Ferrera as well as many other public figures. Having knowledge on public figures and their accomplishments, as well as their struggles, can be beneficial. I think it's inspiring for the reader and also gives you a great deal of knowledge which could be useful for someone like me who works in the music industry. The industry is centered around knowing history and knowing people as well as being able to network. I'm hoping that I will be inspired by the stories that I hear in this book and that it will build upon my general knowledge on the world and the people that live in it.
My plan in reading this book since I do not have to read it in order was to begin with reading the introduction and then more about America Ferrera's story. From there, I will find figures who I am excited to learn about and read their dedicated sections. From what I have seen, some of these figures I already know and admire so I am eager to learn more about them. Additionally, I am excited to be introduced to more public figures who I don’t know already. Thus far, I like the idea that I can jump around the book and still be able to understand it. This makes it much easier for someone like me who struggles to focus while reading. I really enjoyed learning about America Ferrera and her upbringing. I had always heard her name here and there but never really knew much about her. As someone who was also intrigued by the context of her name in and of itself, I am happy that I got to learn more about where it came from and what her experience has been like living in the United States with a name like America. My plan is to continue on reading with the section on Liza Koshy next.
